Not Meant for This Lifetime is a series created in Copenhagen between 2017 and 2019. It consists of six surviving paintings and a seventh that no longer exists, whose absence has become part of the work.
The series traces the arc of a connection too magnetic to resist and too impossible to keep. From the first spark to chaos and consequence, from longing to reflection and, ultimately, to recognition, each canvas captures a stage of love that felt greater than choice, reason, or time.
The story began with something ordinary: an invitation for a cup of tea. That simple gesture overflowed, spilling into a connection that reshaped three lives. There was once a painting of a steaming cup over a glowing background — the origin distilled into image. It has since been destroyed, but its loss belongs to the series as much as the works that remain.
Together, the paintings chart a journey through intensity, grief, transformation, and quiet endurance. They speak to bonds that may span lifetimes, yet cannot always take form in the material world. Love endures — even when it must remain unseen, unfulfilled, or worlds apart.
